Mr. Breza has been a New Mexico painter for over a quarter of a century. When he arrived here from the East Coast, he fell in love with the quality of the light and immediately knew he had a calling to translate it into paint on canvas. Since then, Mr. Breza has become famous for his skill at capturing the brilliance of a sunset or the magic of afternoon light on golden aspens. Born in Trenton, NJ, Mr. Breza was studying to be a lab technician in the early 70's when a friend showed him photographs of New Mexico. In the spirit of the times, he packed his bags and came west on a journey of discovery. He has been painting here ever since, except for two years when he studied at the Art Students League under Richard Goetz. While New Mexico skies and landscapes are his primary subjects, he also enjoys capturing the beauty of the sea, the Colorado Rockies and the Eastern Forests. He will hike away from roadways until he finds a patch of sunshine that challenges and entices his palette. "When I really look at something, I am overwhelmed. I want to do something with it." And what he does do, through the sheer alchemy of paint, is nothing less than brilliant.
